The task of the Crime Directorate is to combat crime and, in particular, to carry out investigative work as part of criminal prosecution. In principle, all reported crimes are processed here - regardless of whether they are so-called mass crimes (e.g. damage to property), homicide or politically motivated crime. As the main criminal investigation department, Aachen Police Headquarters is also responsible for selected serious crime offenses in the Düren and Heinsberg district police authorities.
Mass crime and minor crimes are generally dealt with by Criminal Investigation Department 3 according to the crime scene principle. More serious crimes are prosecuted centrally by other criminal investigation departments on a case-by-case basis.
To combat crime effectively, close cooperation with the Aachen public prosecutor's office, the courts and the offices of the city of Aachen and the city region is absolutely necessary and a given.
The Crime Directorate is divided into five criminal investigation departments:
Criminal Investigation Department 1
with the crime areas of death investigations, arson offences, assault offences, sexual offences, missing persons, robbery, motor vehicle offences and burglary offences
Criminal Investigation Department 2
with the crime areas of financial investigations, organized crime, narcotics crime, economic and computer crime, BTM crime
