Experiencing road traffic conflicts up close without putting yourself or others in danger - this is made possible by the use of virtual reality (VR) goggles. The "Virtual Reality in Traffic Accident Prevention" project was presented by NRW Interior Minister Herbert Reul at the end of April and Aachen Police Headquarters is the pilot authority.
During the development of the project, the police received active support from the employees of the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt).
At the end of June, our colleagues from Traffic Accident Prevention visited pupils from a 9th grade high school in Alsdorf for the first time and, in collaboration with teachers and a BASt employee, introduced the young people to the topic of "Conflict situations when cycling" with the help of VR glasses.
